Arlington Concrete, Old Depot Town and New Subdivisions

Searching for concrete contractors in Arlington usually means one of two kinds of house. There are the older homes near the historic downtown, where several nineteenth-century buildings still stand, and there are the many newer subdivisions built in the last twenty years. Arlington had 2,569 residents in 2000 and 11,517 in 2010, more than four times as many in one decade. By 2020 the count was 14,549, a further 26 percent rise. That pace means a lot of concrete poured in a short time, and those slabs are now old enough to show which ones were built well.

How the town got its name

The community grew up around Withe Depot on the Memphis, Clarksville and Louisville Railroad, on land donated by General Samuel J. Hays, and was incorporated as Haysville on February 10, 1878. Because another Haysville post office already existed in Tennessee, Captain Henry Pitman suggested the name Arlington in 1883. A replica of the old depot, built in 2003, now serves as the Arlington Senior Citizens Center, and the historic post office, blacksmith shop and S.Y. Wilson and Company building remain downtown. On older properties near the square, we keep walks and steps in scale with the house and avoid bright, oversized slabs that look out of place.

Newer Arlington subdivisions

The 2010s homes here are generally on larger lots with two- and three-car garages. Common requests include widening a driveway, adding a parking pad for a trailer or boat, pouring a covered patio slab, and building a walk from the driveway to the backyard gate. When a young driveway has a crack, we look at whether it is a normal shrinkage crack, which is cosmetic, or a sign that the base has moved, which needs repair.

Ground and water

Arlington sits at about 282 feet of elevation, lower than Germantown or Lakeland, across 23 square miles of mostly land. Lower, flatter ground drains more slowly after a heavy Mid-South storm. We set a firm slope on every patio and driveway, keep water from discharging onto new concrete, and use a thicker stone base on soft spots.

Schools and families

Arlington Community Schools started in 2014 with 4,907 students, and the 2020 median age in town was just 34.6. Young families tend to ask for basketball pads, wider driveways for teen drivers and side walks to the backyard, and we plan joint layouts so a court or pad stays usable.

What goes into an Arlington estimate

On the visit we measure the area, look at the condition of any existing concrete, check how the lot drains and ask how you plan to use the slab. A basketball court, a boat pad and a dining patio all call for different thickness, finish and joint layout. The written estimate lists removal, base stone, thickness, reinforcement, finish and cleanup, and that written estimate is the price. If your HOA requires approval, we can give you a simple drawing to submit with your request.

Arlington Questions

Is a crack in my new Arlington driveway a problem?

A thin crack that stays tight and level is usually shrinkage and is mostly cosmetic. If one side is higher than the other or the crack keeps widening, the base may have moved and the section should be repaired.

Can you add a parking pad beside my driveway?

Yes. We tie the new pad into the existing driveway with a clean joint and pour it thick enough for the vehicle or trailer you plan to park.

Do you work on older homes near downtown Arlington?

Yes. We size and finish walks and steps to suit older houses and match existing concrete where we can.

How thick should a basketball pad be?

A standard residential slab thickness is usually enough, with the hoop post set in its own footing. Joint layout matters more for play, so we plan joints to fall along court lines where possible.

Can I get an HOA drawing from you?

Yes. We can provide a simple plan showing the size, location and finish of the slab for your HOA application.
